Virtual Private Networking creates secure connections between offices over the Internet allowing you to cost-effectively connect to corporate network resources wherever your people are located. The most compelling benefit of a VPN solution is that companies of any size can use the Internet to cost-effectively and securely extend the reach of their network resources.
The Internet is a powerful tool, but it is also a dangerous one. Find out how you can protect your network from dangerous hacker attacks.
VPN Applications
With the advent of affordable broadband technologies, small- and medium-sized businesses can now use the Internet and Virtual Private Networking to bypass expensive, traditional WAN and remote access connections. With Multi-Tech's VPN solution a company can tap into the benefits of remote access without the high cost and complex technical infrastructure.
Branch Office VPN
(Replaces traditional Wide Area Networking)
The LAN-to-LAN VPN application sends network traffic over the branch office Internet connection, instead of relying on dedicated leased line connections. This can save thousands of dollars in line costs and reduce overall hardware and management expenses.
We can provide this same application with our SOHO at the branch office. The SOHO is ideal for the small branch office or telecommuter. In addition to VPN connectivity, it provides a WAN Ethernet port for DSL or cable broadband Internet access.
Remote User VPN
(Replaces traditional remote access)
The client-to-LAN VPN application sends remote user traffic over the user's Internet connection. The advantage is that the remote user can make a local call to an Internet Service Provider, as opposed to a long distance call to the corporate remote access server. This solution is ideal for a telecommuter or mobile sales people.
As you can see, Multi-Tech's client-to-LAN application supports both IPSec and PPTP. The first, IPSec, provides strong 168-bit 3DES encryption. It offers high performance 3DES throughput at 15M bps and supports up to 256 tunnels. When using IPSec, you need to purchase a client license for each user. Multi-Tech offers IPSec licenses from 1 to 50 users. PPTP is built into the Windows operating system (Win 95 and above) provides 40-bit or 128-bit encryption with 8M bps throughput. It utilizes user name and password authentication and supports up to 128 tunnels.

VPN and VOIP Applications
Once you've set up your VPN network, you can easily save money on interoffice long distance calling by bridging your voice network to your data network with Multi-Tech's MultiVOIP Voice over IP gateway. MultiVOIP is a point-to-point solution (one box is required at each location) that merges voice/fax from traditional telephones onto an IP data network. It then utilizes another MultiVOIP gateway at the remote end to separate the voice/fax from the data network and send it back to the receiving phone. With MultiVOIP a company can save thousands of dollars on recurring long distance charges.

The Internet is a powerful tool, but it is also a dangerous one. Any business on the Internet is at risk of dangerous hacker attacks.
According to IDC, the average new DSL connection experiences three attempted "hacks" in the first 48 hours. Furthermore, a Gartner Group survey shows that hackers will hit more than 50% of small- to medium-sized businesses using the Internet.
The truth is, anyone can become a hacker. In fact, a wide range of tools and utilities can be easily downloaded from the Internet. And, it isn't always safe to assume that no one else wants a company's data. Some hackers capture data just for the sport of it.
In addition to hacker attacks, viruses have become one of the most prevailing and costly security issues facing organizations today. Remember Melissa or the "Love Bug"? According to the International Computer Security Association (ICSA), there are over 50,000 known viruses with another 200 to 800 discovered each month.
Internet security threats come in a variety of forms, but the end result is always the same: a serious and costly disruption to your business. The loss of irreplaceable data is a very real threat and the costs involved in network repair and lost productivity are high.
So, what can you do about all of this uncertainty? Eliminate your security risks with Multi-Tech's Internet Security Appliance. The not only provides VPN connectivity, but it also provides firewall and e-mail anti-virus protection for your network.
State-of-the-Art Firewall
